Herd It Through The Grapevine

Dog rescue in Santa Rosa, CA

Herding dogs are often misunderstood, due to their special nature (herding drive, high energy, and extreme intelligence). They are often surrendered or abandoned, and/or euthanized, when people realize they are unable to meet the needs of or handle these dogs.

Our mission: To rescue, care for, and rehabilitate unwanted, abused, and neglected dogs of herding breeds, concentrating on Australian Cattle Dogs and Border Collies.

Our focus is on their permanent placement into appropriate, loving homes, and informing the public about the special nature and needs of herding breeds.

Additional adoption info

We ask potential adopters interested in one of our dogs to contact us or fill out our online adoption form, on our website: hittgv.org (click on "Adopt" tab).
We do our best to work with potential adopters to ensure that they find a dog that is a good fit for them. Our adoptable dogs are fully vaccinated, micro-chipped, spayed/neutered (unless very young puppies). We request a donation/fee when dogs are adopted, to help reimburse us for all the costs associated with our rescue and care for each dog (veterinary, care, food, transport, etc.). We have an adoption agreement/transfer form when dogs are adopted to a new owner. This includes requiring that a dog/puppy be spayed/neutered, if not already done.
