We're Giving Parrots Hope!
Parrot Hope Rescue was originally founded in 2005, and is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization based in Mantua, Ohio. It is dedicated to alleviating the crisis facing captive parrots, who often end up unwanted, neglected and abandoned by improper homes.
While the problem of pet animal overpopulation is well known, sometimes lost in these stories are the problems of companion parrots. Indeed, the beauty and intrigue of pet parrots has encouraged many people to purchase parrots on impulse, without thought or knowledge to the long-term considerations of parrot ownership. Many parrots in homes today will outlive their owners, with some parrots living as long as 100 years. Parrots have also been in domesticated situations for a far shorter time than dogs or cats. This means that their behavior can be unpredictable to a pet owner expecting an animal as domesticated as a dog. It also means that parrots have many special dietary and health concerns not seen in other pets. Many people who get parrots ultimately don’t know how to take care of them, leading to situations of abuse, neglect and ultimately abandonment.
In 2008, we took in over 100 parrots, and in 2009, we took in over 150 parrots. We have been helping to give them a temporary home during health and behavioral rehabilitation, and ultimately seeking to find them permanent homes. Some of these parrots, because of abuse and neglect, will never be adoptable because of distrust of humans. A large majority of these parrots, though, with a caring hand and patience, slowly become adoptable and are able to develop positive relationships with humans.
Because Parrot Hope is a 501(c)3, the organization is fully funded by donations from the community. Without support from the community, we would not be able to do the work that we do to help parrots. Parrot care is far more expensive than that needed by other animals, with special dietary needs and high veterinary costs. Please consider making a fully tax-deductible donation to Parrot Hope today!
Parrot Hope is fully staffed by volunteer workers, who have donated countless hours of their time to advancing the rescue’s mission. We are always looking for more volunteers to join our team, and no parrot experience is necessary! If you are interested in doing rewarding volunteer work for these remarkable animals, fill out a Volunteer Application on our website today.
Thank you for your support!

Make a difference in a parrot’s life today... adopt!
Parrot Hope Rescue takes in a number of parrots that can be rehabilitated to be pets. It is our hope that we can find these parrots good forever homes so that they can live a positive, fulfilling life.
We are so excited that you are considering adding a rescued parrot to your family! If you haven’t already, please look through our listings of our adoptable birds. You can also view them on our Facebook page.
If you are thinking about adopting, first and foremost you should ask yourself one vital question: "Am I ready for a bird?" The answer is probably not as easy as you think. Birds require a tremendous investment of time, money and emotion. Our sample adoption contract on our web site gives you an idea of our expectations. If you are the slightest bit unsure, please read more in the Education Section of our web site about birds before proceeding any further.
Adopting through Parrot Hope Rescue is a multi-step process which may require some time to complete. We want to ensure that each bird finds a great home, so we ask your patience during this process.
Step One: Adoption Application. If you feel you are ready to make a lifetime commitment by welcoming a bird into your home, please fill out our adoption application on our web site. Even if we don't currently have a bird that would be a good match for you, we are constantly receiving new birds that need homes.
Please also be aware that processing applications takes time. We receive a high volume of applications every week and must process them in the order that we receive them. Parrot Hope is completely volunteer-based and we are doing our best to process applications in a timely manner. We appreciate your patience.
Step Two: Home Visit and Meeting Birds After your application is processed, a Parrot Hope volunteer will contact you about arranging a home visit and possibly meeting some prospective birds. To ensure that the relationship is ideal for both you and the bird, you may need to meet and interact with the bird many times before we can finalize the adoption.
[Note: Because we conduct a home visit before each adoption, we are currently only accepting applications from households 100 miles or less from Mantua, Ohio. Use Google Maps to determine your distance if you are unsure.]
Step Three: Being a Forever Home If you are well matched with a bird, we will set up the adoption and have you sign an adoption contract. Even after you have adopted your new pet, we will be in contact to ensure your relationship is progressing well. And if you ever have any questions about your bird, you are welcome to contact us as long as the bird lives.
Thank you for considering a rescued parrot!
