By the grace of God, AZ Furry Friends Rescue began March 1, 2010 as a foster-based, all breed, cat and dog rescue. We have established partnerships with Petco Foundation and Petsmart Charities as well as through Arizona Humane Society, Pinal County Animal Care and Control, and Apache Junction Animal Control. We are also members of the Phoenix Animal Care Coalition (PACC911). As of June 2013, we have rescued over 1,000 cats and dogs, and gave them a new hope on life with their forever families. We couldn’t have done this without our dedicated volunteers whom we are so very grateful to have help us. We established the Homeless People’s Pet Project in January 2012, distributing pet food to the homeless people at the Phoenix Desert Mission in Sunnyslope. Our long term goals are to expand the Homeless People’s Pet Project to other areas around the Valley, sponsor a feral colony, and set up a community spay/neuter program.

We are an all-volunteer, all breed, foster-based, cat and dog rescue. We mostly rescue cats and dogs that are at risk of euthanasia our local kill shelters. They live in temporary homes, while we get them vet checked and sterilized. Sometimes they come to us sick, injured or abused, and they stay with us while they recuperate or rehabilitate, and then get them ready for adoption. When the cats and dogs are ready for adoption, we take them to adoption events, where we do our best to match prospective pet parents with our rescue pets. We are partners with Pinal County Animal Control, and Rescue Partners with Arizona Humane Society, Apache Junction Animal Control. We are also members of the Phoenix Animal Care Coalition 911 (PACC911).
Additional adoption info
Whether from the foster's home, or at an adoption event these are the steps we take:
Dogs: If the adopter has a dog and is looking for a companion, we require them to bring their dog for a meet and greet. If the dogs get along, and the people decide this is the dog for them, or they are getting their first dog, there is a two page questionnaire they fill out. If the answers satisfy our criteria, we proceed with the adoption agreement. The adoption fee for dogs includes the sterilization, vaccinations, a microchip, and a rabies shot (if over 3 months old).
Cats: We encourage the potential adopter to interact with the cat as long as they want (and as long as the cat permits). During that time, the discussion of declawing versus clipping nails is brought up, and we educate people about declawing and offer alternative methods of keeping kitty from destroying their furniture. If the adopter have decided on adopting a cat, there is a two page questionnaire they fill out. If the answers satisfy our criteria, we proceed with the adoption agreement. Their adoption fee includes sterilization, shots, microchip, and the Felv/FIV/Heartworm test.
