In June 2000, we incorporated RockySpot and became a 501©3 nonprofit group eligible for donations in order to support our mission, which is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of abandoned, abused or unwanted dogs with strong emphasis on the Dalmatian breed.
Besides trying to save all the abandoned Dalmatians in our area kill shelters, we counsel, train, and educate current and future Dalmatian owners in an attempt to keep all Dalmatians in their current or future homes. Many times health and behavior problems associated with a Dalmatian can be alleviated with proper food, exercise and medication. Dalmatians are a WONDERFUL breed. There is no better soul mate or companion than a well trained, healthy and loved Dalmatian. No other breed values humans and human contact more. A destructive, temperamental, hyper Dalmatian is a neglected Dalmatian. This holds true for most dogs in general!
Why rescue you ask? So many have special needs, and have been neglected, mishandled, starved, or abused emotionally as well as physically and have lifetime scars to prove it. They ALL deserve a second chance.

We are located in Newcastle, Oklahoma and primarily serve adopters in the greater Oklahoma City area and within the state of Oklahoma. However, for the right families we are willing to consider out-of-state adoptions!
Additional adoption info
Potential adopters must complete our online adoption application at www.rockyspot.org. The application asks for information about your family, past and present pets, and your plans for the dog(s) you want to adopt from us, as well as personal references and vet contact info if applicable. Once this application has been approved, we schedule a home visit by one of our members, who will talk with you and your family and meet any other pets, and see where the new dog will be living. (If you are an out-of-state adopter, we will contact our rescue network to see if a rescue local to you can send someone to make the home visit.) If the home visit goes well, and your references and vet have good things to say, your application will be approved!
Once you have been approved and selected a dog, you will foster the dog for a two-week trial period to make certain that you and your new 4-legged family member are right for one another. If any problems arise, you must return the dog to Rockyspot - if desired, you may choose another dog. If things work out and you want to make your new friend a permanent part of your family, you will be asked to fill out our adoption contract. This contract is very basic; one of the most important things it specifies is that if you have to give up the dog for any reason, it must return to Rockyspot. If you have friends or family who wish to adopt the dog, they will have to go through our adoption approval process as well.
We also require an adoption fee. This adoption fee ranges from $150-200 per dog for adoptions within the state of Oklahoma, and $250 for out-of-state adoptions. The fee includes spay/neuter and microchipping, as well as an adoption pack containing items such as treats or toys, and a supply of any medications that the dog may be on. You will also be provided with copies of vet records for vaccinations and any other medical treatment that your dog may have had since he or she has arrived at our rescue. (Our rescue dogs are examined by a veterinarian upon arrival at the rescue, and tested for heartworms and other parasites. While at the rescue or in approved foster homes, they stay up to date on vaccinations and flea and heartworm preventative.)
