Hop A Long Hollow Animal rescue in Norwalk, CT

The Hop-A-Long Hollow is a licensed 501(c)3 Non-Profit Organization incorporated in 2004. In the last two years we have placed over 150 rabbits and small animals in new homes and safe foster care.We work with many animal rescue organizations to get specific animals the most knowledgeable care possible. Our goal is to help “re-home” abandoned and neglected animals into “forever homes”. We aim to give all our animals a second chance at life. All the rabbits that come into the shelter receive immediate medical attention if necessary and are spayed or neutered before adoption.

Donation If you’d like to help us there are many ways to do so. We are a 501(c)3 charity so all donations are tax deductible. For time and cost purposes we will send receipts for donations over $25, but please let us know you’d like a receipt! We can also use paper towels, wet wipes, vinegar, hay, newspapers, plastic litter boxes, food dishes and water bottles. Additionally we are always looking for volunteers. If you think you can devote a few hours at least once a week on the same day please let us know, we’re a close knit group and welcome any rabbit lover to the family! http://www.hopalonghollow.org/donate

Primary Caregiver. When a rabbit is adopted the primary caregiver must be a responsible adult. The rabbit must be wanted by the entire family. Rabbits are not a good pet for households with small children! Please be aware that the adults
in the family have the responsibility for supervising any interaction between their children and the rabbit.
2. Indoor Housing. Adopters must understand that our rabbits are to live as a member of the family. This means that they must have their primary living space indoors, and must spend every night indoors. During the daytime, adopters can allow their rabbits outdoor daytime exercise. If this is the case, the rabbit must be provided with an area with secure fencing, overhead fencing and adequate supervision.
3. Social Requirements. If the rabbit is going to be alone (i.e. without the company of people, a cat or other household pets) for the majority of the time, then we strongly suggest that the adopter adopt a second rabbit as a companion to the first.
We will work with the adopter and supply literature on bonding to help insure a compatible bond.
4. Neutering. Sexually immature rabbits of mixed sexes can be adopted together as long as the adopter agrees to separate them when the males are 3 1/2 months old and to neuter them as soon as the testicles have descended (usually around 4
months). Except for medical reasons, females are to be spayed within 30 days of reaching 6 months old. These same requirements exist even when an adopter has only adopted a single immature rabbit. Even when the rabbit will live alone,
spaying and neutering after sexual maturity is still essential and required.
5. Returns. All rabbits being returned to The Hollow must be returned to the foster home where the rabbit was originally adopted from. We ask that you work with us in trying all possible avenues to insure a successful adoption before returning
the rabbit. However, under no circumstances will the rabbit be let loose or harmed in any way. We will ALWAYS take one of our bunnies back into the shelter!
6. Exchanges. Exchanges can be made ONLY if: The fosterer and adopter are working together on making a match between an adoptee and a pre-residing rabbit AND in the fosterer's judgment, a different match would be less stressful to the animals involved.
7. Adoption Fees. Hop a Long Hollow adoption fees are donations that cannot be refunded. You are not "purchasing" a bunny. The adoption fee is strictly a donation that helps defray some of the costs of the care the Hollow has provided to your animal.
8. Adoption Form. You will be required to fill out and sign the Hop A Long Hollow Adoption Form.
9. Home Visit. We reserve the right to do a home visit if needed. We also reserve the right to contact your references and or landlord.
