We are the Louisiana & Mississippi Chapter of Greyhound Pets of America (GPA). GPA is a national, non-profit organization that was founded in April 1987; GPA/LA&MS was one of the founding chapters of GPA.
Our mission is to find homes for ex-racing greyhounds and those greyhounds who were intended to be racers, but who didn't have the speed or competitive nature to be great racers. [But they do have all the attributes to be greyt family pets.]
GPA/LA&MS, as a chapter, is larger than most, comprising just over 100,000 square miles. GPA Nationally is the largest greyhound placement organization in the US.

All of Louisiana and Mississippi - We do so through a network of Placement Representatives throughout the 2 state area, so we can conduct home visits in a timely manner, and so a dog in need/danger has someone to help in reasonable proximity and in a timely manner.
We do not have a physical facility; all dogs are fostered in our volunteers' homes throughout the 2-state area, so all may not be viewed/met at the same time. However, we do endeavor to keep an updated list of all available dogs on the website!
Additional adoption info
Contract (must be indoor pet; must be returned to us if can't be kept for any reason); spay/neuter, dental, shots, H/W, fecal all done PRIOR to placement; when out of doors (for potty or exercise, must be on a leash or behind a substantial fence; we ask for references, including vet; a home visit is conducted prior to any placements. We also do personality testing to see which dogs can live safely with cats, small dogs and children; those parameters will vary with the pets and children in the family. Each dog goes home with a special collar (martingale), a leash and a GPA ID Tag. The adoption fee is $200.
Most of our volunteers work, so it may take a day or more to get back in touch with you. In addition, we try to find the dog(s) that will best fit your family's wants and needs; therefore, it may take a little while to find "the" dog for you. We do take into consideration your family's desires, as well, but will guide you with regard to the proper addition to your family.
