Dog Heaven Haven

Dog rescue in Zebulon, NC

We are a small independent rescue that pulls dogs in danger of being euthanized out of mostly rural NC shelters. We get them healthy, utd on vaccinations, spayed/neutered, microchipped, and heartworm tested. If the dog is heartworm positive we go by the veterinary's advice on how to treat. Sometimes it is the dangerous, but fast method and sometimes it is the slow method where the dog receives the monthly heartworm medicine and is eventually heartworm free.

We tend to pull dogs that other people and rescues have bypassed. For example, maybe the dog had mange and most people just felt sorry for it, but would not adopt. Or, maybe the dog was skin and bones and looked pitiful, but not seen as adoptable. It could be as simple as it was a holiday weekend and people had other things on their minds instead of adopting. Whatever the reason, we believe all animals deserve a chance so we try to do our part in giving that to them. We wish we could save them all. Unfortunately, there are too many homeless animals and not enough homes for them therefore alot never get their chance for a new life. The ones that do are often forever grateful and show that to you through their love and devotion.

At present we are not a non-profit so all expenses come out of our own pocket. While we charge an adoption fee of $150 to $200 the actual expenses of rescuing, vetting and feeding a dog are usually so much more especially if the dog has health issues. We rescue anyway because we love dogs and feel obligated to do our part in saving some deserving lives. We will gratefully accept donations to help offset our costs and allow us to continue to save some lives.

Rescue FAQs

We are a small independent rescue that pulls dogs in danger of being euthanized out of NC shelters. Although we are in eastern Wake County we are presently focusing our attention on the Nash County Animal Shelter as they are very small and rural, have a very high euthansia rate and do so via a gas chamber. There have been so many perfectly adoptable animals that have come into this shelter who were not adopted or rescued. The shelter only has 16 kennels and often they have to euthanize to make space for more incoming animals. It is a constantly revolving door and will continue to be so until more people do the responsible thing and spay and neuter their pets!

Additional adoption info

When adopting out our foster dogs, we look for quality homes where they will be considered members of the family, live indoors with outdoor playtime, fed quality food and loved and cherished for the rest of their lives.

Adoption is to the best match between the person or family and the dog. It is not first come, first served. We put alot of love and time into our fosters and only want the best for them.

Our adoption fee varies depending on how much money was spent to get the dog healthy and adoptable. It will usually range from $150 to $200 though the actual costs to us are often quite more. The adoption process will include an application, vet reference, home visit and signed contract. This is to ensure us that our foster dog is going to a good home and will be happy and this in turn will give us peace of mind.
