Rescue FAQs

Manitoba Pug Rescue (MPR) is a non-profit organization founded in 2007 and is run by volunteers. We are dedicated to the rescue, care and placement of all surrendered, abandoned, and abused pugs. We provide our rescues with veternary care, fostering, food, and find them a safe, loving forever home.

Our rescue does not have a facility where a potential family can drop by, pick out a pug and take him home that day. Rescued pugs live in foster homes, where they are evaluated and cared for until we find the right adoptive family for them. Manitoba Pug Rescue services pugs and pug x's in need within the whole Province of Manitoba.

From time to time, we also have other small dog breeds available for adoption.

Additional adoption info

If you would like to adopt one of our rescue pugs, we ask that you begin by filling out our adoption application form. One of our Placement Co-Ordinators will review the completed application and will contact the references that you have provided. Once this has been done and you are approved, the Placement Co-Ordinator will contact you to set up a home visit and make an appointment for you to meet the adoptable pug.

All pugs that come into our care are unique and each have a different set of circumstances leading to why and how they became a rescue pug. Some may have behavioural and trust issues stemming from abuse, abandonment or having been kept in a kennel or shed as a breeding pug. A rescue dog requires consistent routine and training, as the majority of pugs that come into our care are not house trained and/or have behavioural issues.
