Our goals are:
- to rescue animals who are homeless and unwanted (primarily animals at shelters);
- to rehabilitate them, as necessary, and
- to find permanent homes for them.
To educate the community about:
- the value of spaying/neutering their pets to reduce the population;
- the value of rescuing rather than buying a companion animal; and
- how to maintain healthy pets, e.g., regular vet visits, poison control, car safety, and training.

Additional adoption info
Potential adopters must complete a written application that is completed online by clicking "Adoption Application" in the Navigation Menu on our web site (www.ahab-rescue.org). The applicant is requested to provide three personal references of individuals not related to you and, if possible, including a neighbor. We also need the contact information for at least one veterinarian you use.
When the application is completed, you will receive acknowledgement. Then we conduct a preliminary background check. Information is considered confidential and is not shared with anyone not directly involved with the process.
When the application is approved, the home visit will be scheduled. The visit is conducted by a volunteer and we require all who live at the home to be present. We need to assure ourselves that the potential adoptive family will be a good match for the animal and there are no safety issues such as a faulty fence.
Most dogs/pups have a $250 adoption fee which helps us pay for the veterinarian expenses as well as food, transportation, etc. The fee is not due until the dog is received by the adopter.
The Adoption Committee asks that you please be patient with us in processing your application. We are an all-volunteer organization and most work full-time in addtion to volunteering but we will do our best to be timely.
NOTE: We do not approve adoption applications on a "first come, first served" basis. In their review, the Adoption Committee looks for the best possible match of pet to home, proceeding to the next step only if/when the application indicates that the home is well suited to the specific animal.
We have never had an animal returned, they all fit in beautifully with their families. See our success stories at http://www.ahab-rescue.org/animals/stories.
