Additional adoption info
A dog or cat may come to P.L.U.T.O. in a number of ways. We sometimes have pets that are found as strays, some have been surrendered by their current owner, some are ill and need some TLC and some are rescued from another shelter. All are provided safety, love and commitment until the pet's forever home is found.
Once a pet is accepted it is checked medically by our veterinarian as necessary and a plan is made for spay/neuter if not already done. All vaccinations are brought up to date.
Our cats have a lovely space at Merry Mutts where they stay until they are adopted. A cat may also be fostered at a P.L.U.T.O volunteers home. All cats are tested and negative for FIV and FeLV. Dogs may be sheltered at the Merry Mutts facility or at the home of a P.L.U.T.O volunteer. All dogs are tested for heartworm.
Each Saturday, and for any events that are scheduled, the pets are picked up in the P.L.U.T.O. van and brought to PETCO where they are presented. If someone is interested in a pet they should inquire at the adoption desk where they may fill out a Pre-adoption Form. Filling out this form does not gurarantee adoption.
All prospective adopting applications are reviewed. Where there is a potential for adoption, a home visit will be scheduled. The purpose of the home visit is to ensure safety, love and commitment for the pets in our care. In the event of an adoption, final paperwork will be completed at the home visit. The adoption donation will be paid and arrangements will be made to transfer the pet.
