The Animal House

Animal rescue in Willow Street, PA

The Animal House was formed to provide temporary foster homes for companion animals and to find and secure responsible permanent homes for them. The Animal House has a "no-kill" policy, meaning that no animal accepted by The Animal House shall be euthanized for any reason other than the alleviation of suffering as a result of life-threatening or chronically painful illness or injury.

The Animal House is also dedicated to increasing public awareness with regard to companion animal over-population and the responsible care and practices of companion animal ownership.

Rescue FAQs

Welcome to The Animal House -- a new kind of pet rescue.

Our cats and kittens live in foster homes as part of our families while they await their forever homes. They don't live in cages; they live in our homes with our kids and our dogs and our visitors. They are used to doorbells and lawn mowers and televisions and video games. They know that the stove is hot and that well-mannered kitties don't walk on the table during dinner.

We interact with our cats in a family environment every day. We know which ones like to sit on the side of the bathtub and play with the bubbles; which ones have a habit of getting up on top of the refrigerator; which ones pester you for loving when you're working on the computer; and which ones like to sleep in the bed.

The best thing about out cats is that you don't have to take our word for how great they are. All our foster homes are open to the public. If you have submitted an application to adopt one of our cats or kittens and have been approved, you are invited to visit our cats in their foster homes and see them where they are most comfortable. You can see how they live, how they interact, and how we interact with them. You can pull out one of our cat toys and play with the cats or watch them play with each other.

At The Animal House, you don't have to look at a cat in a cage and wonder if it will fit in with your family -- you get to meet the cat where it lives and make that vital connection first hand.

Unlike many shelters and rescues, our goal is not to move animals in and out. We don't seek to just bring together people and cats; we want to help families find their new best friends.

So contact The Animal House and then come on in for a visit. Your new best friend might just be here waiting to meet you.

Additional adoption info

Individuals and families interested in our animals must submit an adoption application. If approved, you will be invited to meet the animal in its foster home.

The adoption donation for cats and kittens includes vaccination against four feline viruses and rabies, FeLV and FIV testing, and spaying/neutering. Many of our animals are already microchipped and, if so, that is included in the donation amount. If they are not microchipped, we can provide it before adoption for a small fee.

The adoption donation varies according to the type of animal, age, and circumstances (how long it has been with us, etc.).
