Benewah County Humane Society (Hope's Haven Animal Shelter) is a non profit organization that was established in 1989. We are a no kill shelter and our mission is to protect the welfare of homeless and neglected pets, providing care and shelter, sterilization to prevent future unwanted pets, support community awareness and secure adoptive homes.
Last year the shelter adopted almost 300 cats and dogs and because we get to know the personalities of our animals here only a hand full were returned to us. When an animal comes to us that is scared, hungry and in bad shape we all work together to get that animal socialized. It may take days, months or years but we a very dedicated to making these animals adoptable and until we do they live here at the shelter.
We are mostly a volunteer origanization but we have 2 part time employees. We are a small shelter that covers almost 500 square miles, which includes at least 9 small towns and 3 counties. V\We are always in need of volunteers, donations of food, blankets, cleaning supplies and of course money.
All most every one that comes to see our animals makes comments on how sweet and lovable they are and that is because they are loved by the people who work with them. We treat them like they our own pets and they love us too.
We look forward to having you come and see our animals and to take a tour of our shelter to see what we do here. The volunteers and staff are here because we all love animals and we want to make life better for the homeless and neglected animals that come to us.

Additional adoption info
The fees to adopt from us are as follows: $35 to adopt a cat or you can get 2 for the price of one. It is $60 to adopt a dog or puppy. If you want an animal that has not been spayed or neutered you are required to pay a refundable deposit of $150. It will be returned when proof is shown that the animal has been spayed or neutered. You will have 4 months after adopting to have this done, if you don't within the 4 months you will lose the deposit.
We require an adoption application be filled out and at least three references given, We will contact the references before an adoption can be finalized. We like to make home visits if possible but sometimes when an adopter is from out of the area we can't do that. We do expect the adopter to have a safe place for the animal. A fenced yard of kennel for a dog when you are not at home. And we ask questions about how you will treat your new pet. We love our animals here at the shelter and we want only the best for them.
If for any reason you cannot keep the pet, please call us so that we can make arrangements to bring the pet back.
