The Animal Services Department is responsible for all animal control operations, including nuisance complaints, animal cruelty investigations, animal attacks, handling of rabid animals, dead animals, injured animals, the animal adoption program, and taking care of the animals at the Columbia County shelter.

The adoption fee for kittens and puppies is $20.00 and $25.00 for dogs and cats. When adopting an animal from Animal Services, you must sign an agreement to take the animal to a Veterinarian of your choice within three days of adoption. The Animal Services Shelter does not have a veterinarian on the premises.
Customers are also be required to sign an agreement to have the animal spayed or neutered. This is a State Law in Georgia which became effective in July 1994.
