Florida Boxer Rescue

Dog rescue in Central & West Florida, FL

Florida Boxer Rescue, Inc. is a 501c3 not-for-profit volunteer organization. We strive to rescue unwanted and abandoned purebred Boxers in central and western Florida and place them in safe, responsible, loving, PERMANENT homes.

If you are looking to surrender or adopt a Boxer in northern Florida, please visit our friends at B.A.R.C. for assistance. Likewise, please contact Coastal Boxer Rescue if you live in the eastern or southern parts of Florida and need assistance or adoption info.

How does our rescue program work?
Whether a dog is surrendered to FBR's custody by his guardian, or pulled from a shelter, he is transported in the vehicle of an unpaid CUR RUN volunteer (Canine Underground Railroad).

We try to do the majority of transporting during the weekends, as most volunteers work full-time jobs, but in dire emergencies we will transport a Boxer during the work week. Some volunteers have forfeited their lunch hour or used sick days or vacation time because a dog needed transportation during the day. Now THAT'S dedication!

Boxers that enter FBR's rescue program are taken to veterinarians we work with in the western part of the state.

Regardless of which vet he sees, each Boxer is vaccinated with 7-in-1 and rabies, tested for heartworms and intestinal parasites, and is spayed or neutered (if intact upon arrival). We try to do a microchip scan for all of our Boxers that come in as stray. In 2003 we began micro-chipping most of our Boxers!

During their stay in the rescue program, most of our Boxers live in our many wonderful private foster homes. It is because of these people, that we are able to rescue several hundred Boxers every single year!

Foster moms and dads treat their foster Boxer as if he were their own. They provide food, shelter, and lots of TLC, as well as attempt to teach basic obedience and house manners.

A group of volunteers comprise the Adoption Committee, and process about 100 applications per month.

Our goal is to contact each applicant by e-mail (preferred method to save on long distance bills) or telephone within 10 days of submitting the application.

References are checked and applicants will have a home visit before an adoption can take place.

We place our Boxers according to each dog's individual needs in order to experience a successful adoption. The dog is placed where we feel he will fit best and not on a first-come-first-served basis. The website is updated as often as possible; however, in some instances a Boxer may be placed in an awaiting approved home before he appears online.

We require an adoption fee, along with a signed adoption contract. The fee is used primarily for our vet bills. FBR wants the adopted dog and new family to love each other! If it proves to be a mismatch once at home, we offer a "return" policy. All Boxers are adopted spayed or neutered with contracts and MUST be returned to us if the adopter chooses to no longer care for the dog.

We encourage contact at any time and are here long after adoption, to offer assistance and advice.

Additional adoption info

How To Adopt a Boxer from Florida Boxer Rescue, Inc:

Fill out our application form located at http://www.flbr.org. Please make sure you answer all questions. Incomplete forms will not be processed.

Volunteers try their best to process applications within 10 days time. We have an average of 100 applications per month. It may take less than 10 days or slightly more. Please be patient. This is strictly a volunteer organization.

Try to avoid "falling in love" with a particular Boxer you see online. There could be someone already approved who is being considered for the same dog. We place Boxers where we think he or she will be a successful addition, and not on a first-come-first-served basis. Please also note that Boxer Rescue is NOT a source for puppies; we very rarely have them in our program. They usually aren't the ones who need our help.

*PLEASE NOTE*

FBR will not place two female dogs in the same home due to dominance issues often seen in such circumstances. Based on our experiences, FBR feels we can increase successful adoptions by not placing females together in the same home.

Once your application is received, you will either be contacted by e-mail or telephone regarding the status of your application. Please monitor telephone messages and your e-mail. If you e-mail our organization to inquire about adoption or your application's status please remember to include your full name and telephone number with area code for a timely response. Please use this address for inquiries: info@flbr.org

Home visits are scheduled PRIOR to adoption as part of our adoption process.

(Yes, we will call your vet to verify this information)

● We do not adopt out dogs as gifts or surprises! Absolutely no exceptions.

Not everyone who applies is able to adopt from Florida Boxer Rescue, Inc. Our mission is to find homes best suited for this often misunderstood breed.

Adoption Fees

* PLEASE NOTE * Due to the increased number of Boxers needing even basic vetting and other medical services upon their arrival into rescue, we have had to raise our adoption fees in order to continue our efforts. You can read more information here.

The following rate structure helps us cover the costs that we incur in Boxer Rescue. Your adoption fee is applied directly to our vet bills and pays for the Boxer's sterilization, fecal, exam, vaccines, microchip (if applicable), and general care while in the adoption program. None of the volunteers are paid. Even though the adoption fees help offset our medical bills, we still depend on donations from the public.
