C.A.R.E. For Animals

Animal rescue in Raleigh, NC

C.A.R.E. For Animals is a non-profit, all volunteer, animal welfare organization. Our Mission is to improve the quality of life of our animal friends by: strengthening the bond between humans and animals; ending suffering due to abandonment, abuse, and neglect: and eliminating the need for euthanasia of healthy, adoptable animals in our shelters.

We are ALWAYS in need of new volunteers to help us further our mission. Our greatest need of course is for loving foster families (short or long term), but we also need help at adoption events (play with the pets!), fundraising events (help us make $ to care for them!), and other miscellaneous things. Contact us for a list of volunteer opportunities!

Rescue FAQs

C.A.R.E. For Animals knows that there are an overwhelming number of animals in need and families looking to provide loving homes all across the country.

While we do not limit the area from which we rescue animals, there is great need in our area of North Carolina and thus we do tend to focus our rescue efforts more in the counties in/around Raleigh NC.

Also, because of volunteer time limitations and our adoption process, we must generally limit our adoption radius to within 1 1/2 hours from Raleigh NC. On occasion, one of our volunteers can complete the home visit and adoption follow-up further from Raleigh, but this is on a case by case basis and as volunteer availability allows.

Adoption Philosophy

C.A.R.E. For Animals takes our responsibility in placing homeless pets with new families very seriously. We make a commitment to each animal whose life we have saved that at last, they will find safety & security, and be loved & cherished for the rest of their lives. Similarly, we make a promise to prospective adopters to help them identify the most compatible pet for their current and FUTURE lifestyles, level of experience, and personalities.

C.A.R.E. For Animals believes there is the "right" pet for each family who is seeking to add on a new companion. We strive to match the specific needs & characteristics of the family, with those of the individual pet. In doing so, they can experience MANY memorable years together, filled with JOY and COMPANIONSHIP.

We have many wonderful pets for adoption, so let us help you find your newest family companion!

Adoption Policies:

** We require that our dogs live primarily inside with their families. We require that our cats live safely inside only in their new homes.

** We prohibit declawing of our adopted cats, due to the nature of this procedure.

** A perspective adopter's current pets must be current on their veterinary care AND be spayed/neutered.

** All adopted pets are either already spayed & neutered, or if adopted prior to 4 months of age, MUST be spayed/neutered post-adoption.

** Prospective adopters must be at least 21 years of age.

** Typically, we can only consider adoption applications for individuals who reside within a 1 1/2 hour radius from Raleigh, NC. On occasion, we may be able to expand that radius further if one of our volunteers is able to complete the home visit and the adoption follow-up.

** We may have additional adoption policies or requirements not listed here, as well as adoption requirements specific to each individual pet and their needs. These things will be discussed with you if you place an application for adoption with us.

We understand that not everyone will agree with or be comfortable with our adoption policies and requirements. Everyone has very different philosophies about pet ownership and what is in the best interest of a pet. Our beliefs are based on our knowledge and years of experience with various issues and situations (mostly learning from other peoples' tragedies), and what we believe to be in the best interest of the pets that we have for adoption.

We ask that you carefully consider, and be honest about whether you can agree with our adoption requirements. We do complete adoption follow-up to ensure that adopters are following the committments they have made to us about the care they will provide our pets.

All rescue groups and shelters have different policies, procedures, and expectations, so we would be glad to refer you elsewhere if your philosophies on pet ownership are not compatible with our agency.

Adoption Procedures:

Prospective adopters will be required to complete an adoption process, which includes:

** an adoption application
** a phone interview to review the application
** reference check
** a home visit with the pet

The home visit involved not only allows us the opportunity to see where our pet would be living, but gives you the opportunity to spend more 1-1 time with the pet in your home, before making a final decision about adoption.

Upon adoption approval, adopters will be required to sign an adoption contract agreeing to good quality care for their new pet.

Our adoption process generally takes 1-2 weeks to complete, depending on the number of other applications we are processing at that time.

C.A.R.E. For Animals uses a 30 day trial period to ensure that both the family and the pet are both happy with the results of the adoption. Within that time, we will refund the full adoption fee if the pet is returned.

C.A.R.E. For Animals develops an ongoing relationship with all of our adoptive families. We complete ongoing adoption follow-up to ensure the well-being of our adopted pets, and also serve as an ongoing resource and support to our adopters with the goal of many years of companionship between the family and their pet.

Adoption Fees:

Dogs: $150

Cats: $100

There is a reduction in the adoption fee if the adopter adopts multiple pets from us.

Each animal has received the following veterinary care prior to adoption:

** veterinary exam
** routine vaccinations
** dogs have been tested and started on heartworm preventative
** cats have been tested for Feline Leukemia/FIV
** spay/neuter surgery (according to age)
(For animals who have not been spayed/neutered, a portion of the adoption fee will be refunded upon proof of surgery.)
