Sioux City Animal Control

Animal shelter in Sioux City, IA

We are the animal enforcement and governing agency for the city of Sioux City, Iowa. Not only do we pick up strays running the city's streets, but we enforce city ordinances set forth for the residents of the city who own animals. These include but are not limited to the leash law, barking dogs, animal neglect and cruelty cases. We hold cats and dogs for 7 seven days and if they are not reclaimed by their owners, they are put up for adoption, go to rescue groups or are euthanized. We strive to encourage the residents of our city to be responsible pet owners by enforcing the animal laws set by our city.

Shelter FAQs

We serve the residents of Sioux City, Iowa, but also adopt out to residents of Nebraska and South Dakota. We are in a tri-state area only minutes away from South Sioux City, Nebraska and North Sioux City, South Dakota. We are a city governed shelter with a building that has been around since the 1950s or 60s and has only limited space to hold the animals we take in. So, the time period they are held is 7 days before the animals are either adopted out, sent out to rescue groups or, unfortunately, euthanized. We take in not only strays, but also abused, neglected and abandoned animals from our city that are in desperate need of loving homes.

Additional adoption info

Our adoption fee is $65.00 for dogs and $100 for Pitbulls. Cats are $25.00 and sometimes we run them for $10.00 when we are running short of room. The adoptee must sign a contract agreeing to get the animal spayed or neutered within 30 days of adoption date or when the animal is old enough. We give the first vaccination and a deworming to the animal which is included in the adoption fee. If for some reason the new owner cannot keep the animal, it needs to come back to our shelter.
