My husband & I started rescuing horses when we went to our first auction in Iowa and stumbled across a "kill pen". I bought a 3 year old mare with a 3 week old filly by her side on her way to the slaughter house and my husband bought a welsh pony. It started there and I could never imagine what we have seen though out the years to come - the neglect, the starved, beaten, abandoned, horses without the spirit they were born with. They had lost their will to survive. When I see that spirit back in their eyes - I know I've done my job and that horse is now complete.
