To help preserve the lives of injured, abused, abandoned and neglected Pot-Bellied Pigs. We offer a peaceful setting for the pigs to live and fraternize and maintain a stable and healthy inviroment for the duration of the animal lives. We are in British Columbia , there are 29 pigs here and 12 in foster.
Additional adoption info
For us in the field of ‘Rescue Work” we follow an adoption process, one you may not be accustomed too up until now. 99% of the animals in the Sanctuary arrived from really bad situations and the only way we can insure the safety of our pigs is to get to know you prior to placement. We love that you love them enough to consider bringing them into your home as a companion animal, most pig lovers like us are 100’s of miles apart. We will help along the way with nutrition, behavior and any medical concerns you may have for the rest of your pig’s life. We have a pre-adoption questionnaire that you can print off here and mail back to us. This eliminates many of the initial emails or calls back and forth. I am sorry if this seems impersonal to you but our time belongs to the animals now and with feeding and care we are busy!! . Remember this is a working sanctuary and rescue managed by one person with few volunteers who work full time at paying jobs as well.
Hearts on Noses will not ship or adopt anywhere outside of a four hour drive time. We may just drop in one day to see how you’re all doing and anything further is simply not feasible with our time restraints.
We have worked with fellow rescuers in communities all over the world. There are some exceptions and volunteers who will do the home check if you’re outside that drive time. Please know there time is no different from yours and equally valuable.
Hearts on Noses will not adopt to anyone breeding or raising animals for food. We are working with an animal where for 100’s of years is still only considered a food source species. It would be hypocritical for us to place a pig where others were being raised simply for profit or slaughter. Do you have to be a vegetarian? No that is your personal choice but we believe the animals speak the same language so we care about what our pigs feel when there friends are being led away.
Now many of you reading this may think, wow they are strict! Yes we are and take a look at the pictures here of pigs who lived with people who absolutely had to have them , said they were forever homes, said they loved them and said they would care for them properly. We must do everything we can to protect our pigs and this is the only way we can try and do this effectively.
Contact us and we will forward you our pre-adoption questionaire.
Thank you for loving them!!!!!!!! .
