East Penn Pyr Rescue, Inc

Dog rescue in Lehighton, PA

We Rescue Great Pyrenees only.

We are a small group of volunteers with jobs and families. We open our homes and our hearts to Great Pyrenees in need of re-homing for a variety of reasons.

Our foster dogs receive medical care if needed and are fed a good quality food. All of this is expensive. We work on donations only. Adoption fees help to cover the cost of these things. Donations are always appreciated!

We generally keep our foster dogs at least 30 days prior to placement in a new home. This allows time for the dog to settle in and for us to understand their individual personalities. Dogs needing further evaluation or dogs with behavioral problems are kept longer to work out the problems.

We have placed over 150 Great Pyrenees since we formed East Penn Pyr Rescue, Inc in 2006. Over 98% of those dogs are still in their original adoptive homes.

Please understand, our first concern is the happiness of the dogs. To that end we reserve the right to refuse to adopt a dog to a situation which we may feel will not be in the best interest of the dog. If the dog is happy, generally the new owners are happy as well!

Since most of our dogs are kept in foster homes, we rely on our foster volunteers to accurately supply us with information on the dog's temperament and personality. Although we do as much temperament testing as we possibly can with the dogs, we cannot test for every eventuality. We can only relay to potential adopters what we have observed with a given dog in the situations that dog has been exposed to during foster care. Many of the dogs turned in to Rescue have had little or no training. We work with these dogs and train as much as time allows.

Any adopted dog that cannot stay in it's new home for any reason is welcomed back. In fact we insist on the dog being returned to us if it cannot stay in it's new home. This is in our contract.

Rescue FAQs

We are Great Pyrenees Rescue for Eastern Pennsylvania. If room allows we occasionally take in dogs from NJ and DE.

Additional adoption info

The first step is to fill out the Information Survey. Once we have gone over the Information Survey we will contact the potential adopter. If we have a dog that will fit the potential adopter's needs and lifestyle arrangements will be made for the potential adopter to come meet the dog. If all goes well we will have a volunteer come to the potential adopter's home for a home visit prior to adopting the dog. We do have an adoption contract. We also generally require secure fencing of a suitable height for the dog you wish to adopt. Adoption fees are generally $300.00 for adult dogs and $350.00 for puppies. These may be a bit higher if the dog has required extensive Vet care or testing. You may contact us by phone or email. If we do not return your call within a day or two (or answer your email) please contact us again. Email is not absolute and it may have gotten lost in cyberspace. Also, answering machines are not always 100%.
