Pure Thoughts, Inc. is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to saving the lives of horses, yearlings and foals that are bound for slaughter for human consumption as well as equines that are victims of starvation, neglect and abuse.
The primary concern of Pure Thoughts is horse welfare. Our mission is based on the fact that we, as a nation, have domesticated horses and must take responsibility for their lives. Horses give to us their hearts and souls for work, sport, entertainment and recreation--they know only how to give. To use a horse only as long as it fulfills our needs, then subject it to physical and/or mental abuse, quite often even death, whether on the slaughterhouse floor, abandoned in a field or stall with its needs unmet is a violation of the horse’s rights--rights that only we can supply.
The goals of Pure Thoughts, Inc. are:
• To support and secure the safety and well-being of all horses
• To rehabilitate horses that are in need
• To provide a humane and peaceful end of life when necessary
• To educate people about the physical and mental health of horses
• To teach and apply the proper and positive training techniques
• To place horses in a “forever home”
• To insure the safety of the placed horses for the rest of their lives
Horses bring happiness and pleasure to people of all ages. Our labors to restore horses to productive and happy lives are focused on their ability to socialize with humans as well as other horses, thus insuring a good quality “forever home.” It is our belief that once a horse is ready for a “forever home,” we must concentrate on the education of the humans with their horse as well as match the horse’s personality and abilities to the potential adopters. The volunteers who are involved with horses go through an orientation before working with the horses; this allows the human and horse to live and learn in a safe environment. Our educational programs are designed to increase people’s responsibility for and awareness of the horse’s welfare throughout this nation. Through education we can put an end to equine abuse, neglect and slaughter in this country.

We have adopted to families from Florida to Canada mainly east of the Mississippi. We do have guardians assigned to all of the horses that we adopt out.
Additional adoption info
We do need to contact references and have the property where the horse or horses will be staying inspected. We do have an adoption contract that needs to be signed and the fees do vary on the horses we have.
