About Us

The Humane League of Lancaster County, The Best Place to Find A Best Friend

Mission Statement
The mission of the Humane League of Lancaster County is to ensure the health, happiness and welfare of domesticated animals in Lancaster County.

For the animals in our care, we strive to place them in suitable, responsible homes on a permanent basis, as quickly as possible. We provide them with facilities that are welcoming, comfortable, clean and appropriate for each species and individual animal. Our staff is compassionate toward the animals and act as good stewards of humanity at a time when the animals need it the most.

We have well-established partnerships and connections with many other organizations to help place animals, and share resources and information.

Animal Abuse Investigation & Law Enforcement
The Humane League of Lancaster County employs two full time Court Appointed Humane Society Police Officers who investigate reports of domestic animal abuse and neglect and prosecute cases of animal abuse.

Lost and Found
The shelter is the only facility in Lancaster County which accepts stray pets, from cats and dogs to ferrets and chickens. Lost reports are help on file, and checked against reports of found animals and the incoming stray animals.

Volunteer Opportunities
The Humane League offers many opportunities for interested individuals to gain experience working with animals, learn more about animal welfare issues, and work with other animal lovers to improve the lives of animals in our community. Volunteers can work directly with the animals, or support the work of the shelter through raising money, educating the public, or providing administrative assistance. Due to the generously donated time and assistance of volunteers the shelter can offer many high quality programs and services to Lancaster County pets and residents.

Foster Care Program
Foster Parents offer short-term and long-term care to animals who are unable to be immediately placed for adoption. By providing care to injured, sick, or neonatal animals, Foster Parents make it possible for these animals to be adopted.

Membership
Members of the League are the shelter’s biggest supporters. They receive a membership packet, our quarterly newsletter Paw Prints, and discounts from various vendors. Memberships run on a calendar year, January through December.
