Rescue FAQs

Compassionate Pug Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit, volunteer run pug rescue organization based in South Florida. CPR accepts all pugs regardless of their condition, nurses them back to health and finds them a loving forever home. The pugs brought into CPR's care have a variety of backgrounds. Some pugs are surrendered by their owners due to difficult family situations. Others have been severely neglected or make their way to CPR via Animal Control. Regardless of the past, all the dogs that are taken under CPR's wing have one thing in common - a bright future. When CPR receives a new pug, he or she is immediately given a health screening. Any medical conditions discovered are quickly treated. Then each pug is carefully matched with a family that has filled out an extensive adoption application. Volunteers make sure that the lifestyle of each family fits the personality of the pug. After a suitable match is found, the pug is on its way to its new forever home and off to live the pampered life that every pug deserves.

Additional adoption info

1. Prospective adopters submit the adoption application. Please be patient! Keep in mind it is impossible fill each request as we receive so many applications. We do have a wait list but each application is evaluated and we try to find the best suited match for your family. Do you have room in your home and schedule for a pug? If you live alone and work 12-hour shifts, the answer is no. Isolation only leads to behavioral problems and usually results in a dog being returned. Is your home appropriate for a pug? Air conditioning is a necessity, as is a safe area for playing outdoors. These issues and others are considered when we go over your application. The information we get from you will also help determine what type of Pug would be best for your household, an active dog or a more laid back one, a male or female. The sex of your dog can depend on other pets in the home.

2. A CPR rep will contact you and perform a home evaluation. This is a requirement for all adoptions. We have to see the environment the dog will be living in. No exceptions. Once your home evaluation is completed you’ll be eligible for adoption.

3. CPR will notify you when we find your pug match. Because rescue is so unpredictable, it’s not possible to give you an arrival date. For example, if you have a male dog that is male dog aggressive and need to adopt a female, we can’t always know when you can expect your dog to come home.

4. Welcome home! You, your new pug, and a representative of CPR meet. At that time the adoption contract is signed and you pay the adoption fee. We turn over the medical records and prescriptions (if any) and go over the current schedule, diet and so forth. You and your new buddy are on your way home.

Story
URGENT - ADOPT OR FOSTER NEEDED! Star is a very sweet 8 year old female Orange Maine Coon Tabby mix. She is very healthy and has been well cared for. The Vet said she could be 3, she's so healthy. I am not sure about all the details that got these cats to this point - but from what I understand, an elderly woman left her home with a lot of cats. I am not sure if she passed or if she had to go into a home... Either way, they were left behind. Many of the cats were re-homed... but, unfortunately, there are still 13 that have not yet been able to be placed - mainly due to time and finding the RIGHT home. They are all very sweet kitties - but we are running out of time to place them. Meanwhile, a very kind and generous woman took the remaining 13 cats into her 2 bedroom condo in hopes of being able to place them over time. Unfortunately, her life's circumstances have changed unexpectedly and she has to move very quickly. Her landlord needs to begin to show her place. She has been putting the landlord off as long as she can, but it's now down to the wire. WE ONLY HAVE UNTIL THIS WEDNESDAY and then she will have no choice but to bring them to a shelter. Sadly, the only shelters that will take the cats are all KILL SHELTERS! As I said, they are all beautiful, sweet kitties and can be placed in the right homes if we have a little more time. WE ARE LOOKING FOR TEMPORARY AND OF COURSE, PERMANENT SITUATIONS. All ideas are welcomed. Anything safe and appropriate at the moment will be fine.

PLEASE HELP! Annie and her siblings need a home ASAP! Annie is an adorable Dilute Calico Bengal/Tabby mix female... appx 12 weeks old. She is sweet and loves to play. She is a little shy at first, but with the right amount of love and affection, she will blossom and become a great friend and companion. She will thrive if she is adopted with one of her siblings. These 5 kittens had a really rough start and are so grateful to have been saved. They will show you their appreciation in loads of love... They were born outside near a very dangerous, busy street. They lived on top of a wall and could have fallen off into traffic at any time. Thankfully, we got them to safety and are we desperately trying to find them the great homes they deserve. Please consider adopting 2 (or3) of these angels together. They have become so dependent on each and make great litter mates. Thank you!

Story
Sierra is a gorgeous rare Siamese Lynx Point / Bengal / Snow Leopard mix She is very sweet and loves to be held and cradled like a baby. She needs to be an only child. She does not like other cats but loves people. In fact, she needs to be around people constantly because she gets separation anxiety and will cry and cry. She definitely has the Siamese voice and is very vocal. She has the energy of a Bengal. We are looking for a family that - live in a home - NOT an apartment, NOT a condo, NOT a townhouse - have NO other kitties - people that are home most of the time - either work from home or retired Sierra really needs to be around people Please only contact us about Sierra if you meet the Criteria listed Thank you -
