Shelter FAQs

We provide animal control to the Borough of Paramus and Borough of Maywood only. We do not accept animals from other towns, or owner surrendered animals.

On April 30th, 2010, the Paramus Animal Shelter was shut down, and contracted out to a private animal control company. We are unsure if they will be doing adoptions.

Additional adoption info

1)You must fill out an application, and provide us with a valid driver's license. All potential adopters must be 21 years of age or older.

2)You will then meet the animal(s), and decide which one(s) you are interested in.

3)We review your application before making a final decision. Please note it make take 3-5 business days for your application to be approved. We reserve the right to reject any and all applications.

4)Once approved, you come in and complete the necessary adoption paperwork to adopt the animal(s).

Everyone living in the immediate household must come in to meet the animal(s). This is so that the animal gets to meet and interact with everyone before going home.

Please note we do not do same day adoptions.

Please go to our web page (http://www.geocities.com/paramus_animal_shelter/index.html) to find our adoption application. When you complete the application, you can drop it off in person or mail it to us, and we will review it ahead of time. If approved, you can then make an appointment to meet the animals, and should you wish to adopt, you will be able to adopt the animal the same day.

If you have another dog, and are interested in adopting a dog from us, you must bring your dog in to meet our dog(s).
