Alabama Animal Adoption Society

Animal rescue in Homewood, AL

Since 1977, we've been helping strays and unwanted pets find loving homes. Through the years, weve placed many animals with loving families. Along with our volunteers and caring, adoptive families, we're giving animals a chance to live.

OUR HISTORY
The Alabama Animal Adoption Society is a nonprofit, tax exempt organization which was founded in 1977 by a small group of people whose primary goal was to solve the problem of strays and unwanted pets in need of finding loving homes. The AAAS started as a mobile pet adoption that would operate two Saturdays a month.

In November of 1982 the AAAS purchased a building which is now known as the Center. Since then, the AAAS has been holding adoptions at this facility every Saturday, with the exceptions of some holidays, for the purpose of adopting out animals to responsible and loving homes.

It is our goal that we can find permanent homes for the strays and unwanted pets and end pet over population through our many services, including our vigorous spay and neuter program.

All of our animals are in foster homes or with their current owners. We do NOT euthanize. We are always looking for more foster homes and volunteers. If you are interested please contact us.

Additional adoption info

Adoption Policies
A $100 tax-deductible donation is required to adopt a pet. This donation helps us provide the services we offer and basic medical care for our adoptees.

Kittens and Puppies
Shots appropriate to the pet's age
One worming
Free spay or neuter certificates that can be taken to one of our participating veterinarians

Adult Animals
All permanent shots with the exception of rabies. Because rabies vaccinations (required annually by Alabama State Law) provide a tag and certificate made out in the owner's name, it is best for the new owner to take care of this in case the pet ever becomes lost.
If not already spayed or neutered, pet comes with a free spay or neuter certificate that can be taken to one of our participating veterinarians

The Adoption Process
The Alabama Animal Adoption Society's goal is to place each pet in the right home for that particular animal. To ensure the placement of a pet in the proper home environment, potential owners are interviewed and must fill out an application for adoption. The application asks information that helps us determine whether the home would be the right one for that pet. All applicants must be approved before they adopt a pet.

We do require a vet reference, fence and/or home inspection if it is requested by the foster home.

We do not adopt out of the State of Alabama. If you do not live in the Jefferson county or it's surrounding counties but you are a resident of Alabama please call us before you start the adoption process.
