At the Riverbend Animal Shelter, homeless animals are given health care, comfortable living conditions and, most important of all, affection. Located on four acres of farmland just south of Jerseyville, Illinois, we have been open since June of 2006. Prospective owners are screened for their ability and commitment to care for a pet. The shelter has been inspected and approved by the Illinois Department of Agriculture and will be inspected periodically. Some of the costs of the shelter are offset by "Nancies Fancies Resale Shop" in Wood River, Illinois, which supports the shelter by accepting and reselling donated items.

Additional adoption info
The dogs and cats at the Riverbend Humane Society Animal Shelter have had enough sadness in their lives. They may have been neglected, abandoned or separated from people who could no longer care for them. They deserve a loving home where they will be safe and receive the best health care. The adoption regulations below were planned to insure that prospective adopters can meet the needs of their pet.
All Animals In Our Facility Are Be Spayed/Neutered, Chipped, Vaccinated, and Tested ( Dogs- Heartworm Tested/ Cats- FeLV/FIV Tested) Before Going To Their New Homes.
FOR BOTH DOGS AND CATS - The adopted animals receive healthy food, water, adequate exercise and professional veterinary care including annual checkups and inoculations.
FOR CATS AND KITTENS - Prospective adopters agree to keep cats and kittens in their homes rather than allowing them to go outside.
FOR DOGS AND PUPPIES - In most cases dogs or puppies must be kept in a fenced yard when outside rather than being chained, tied or allowed to run loose. Dogs who live outdoors must have an insulated dog house.
Can you meet these requirements? Wonderful! You're ready to start on one of life's great adventures: adopting an animal who needs a home. Please email us for more information!
