American Brittany Rescue was formed in 1991 as a cooperative effort of Brittany owners, breeders, trialers, & fanciers who believe we have a responsibility not only for our own dogs and the dogs we produce, but for our breed as a whole. Because many rescue dogs can be traced 1-3 generations back to a recognized breeder, we believe all breeders should take it upon themselves to assist Brittanys in need, in any way they can.

Additional adoption info
If you have not submitted an adoption application as of yet please go to the ABR web site at www.americanbrittanyrescue.org It is ABR policy that a current application must be on file in your state and that a home visit be completed. This must be done prior to you're being eligible to adopt. This application is for American Brittany Rescue's use and will not be shared with anyone outside of ABR. Only the State Coordinator, the person who does your home visit and the fosters of the dogs you state you have an interest in on you application will have access to your application.
When you have received conformation that your application has been received please contact your State Coordinator.
ABR ADOPTION PROCESS:
We do not place our Brittany’s on a first-come, first-served basis. We review every application received. It is our goal to place our Britt’s in the very best home possible. Please read the bios for foster dogs carefully. This information will tell you if the dog does well with other dogs, does well with cats, does well with small children, and if a fence is required, etc. If a Britt does not tolerate young children etc, we will not entertain your application if you have a cat or young children. Dogs with specific requirements will be placed in environment that is best for them.
We have many people looking at the same dogs that you are interested in. Some have waited a long time to adopt. We want to choose the family that best matches the dog’s needs. If you are not chosen to be the dog’s family it isn't because you aren't a good family. It is because we feel the other family fulfils the needs of this particular dog.
We conduct at least one telephone interview for applications.
A home visit must be set up and completed before you can take a dog into your home.
One of our ABR volunteers will be contacting the vet you have listed on your application.
This process takes time, we are volunteers, and most of us hold full time jobs and help ABR as we are able. Please be patient. Please understand that you will not be able to adopt any dog till all the requirements have been met.
ABOUT OUR BRITTANYS:
Be aware that our adoption fee is between $250.00 and $400.00. That covers our costs for spaying/neutering vaccinations, heartworm testing, worming and any other health issues a dog may have come to us with.
If the dog you adopt from ABR is not spayed/neutered at the time of the adoption because of a health issue or the dog is a young pup a $150.00 spay/neuter deposit is required and will be refunded to you upon proof of spay/neuter.
AFTER YOU ADOPT:
Once you have adopted a Brittany from ABR we are here to help in anyway we can. Please stay in touch with the foster of your dog for at least 1 month after adopting so they can help if any problem arises.
