Friends of Homeless Animals of RI, Inc.(FOHA)

Animal rescue in Saunderstown, RI

We are a volunteer group that rescues and places small dogs and cats. We rescue locally and from all around the country.

  • We do not have a shelter so there are no set visiting hours or place to visit. We foster all the dogs in foster homes in various locations.

    We need foster parents!

We cannot save any dogs without volunteers to help foster our animals. Please help us to help them - become a foster parent.

Donations are gladly accepted and appreciated.
If you cannot adopt a dog, foster a dog or donate your time, we have made it easy for you to make a donation online.
Donations can be made securely by Paypal:

We rescue & adopt small dogs and cats throughout the US.

WE DO NOT HAVE A SHELTER - ALL DOGS ARE FOSTERED IN INDIVIDUAL HOMES.

Please note that adopters must comply with their local requirements .

WE ONLY ACCEPT DONATIONS ON PAYPAL OR MONEY ORDERS - NO PERSONAL CHECKS PLEASE.

We require a deposit of $200. Once we have your deposit we will hold the dog for you while we process your application. If you are not approved to adopt or we can not provide the dog you are interested in, your deposit is refunded. If you are approved, the deposit is applied toward the total donation of the dog.
If the dog is not a good match, we will work with you to find another dog. We want you to be certain that this is a decision your have thought through thoroughly & not just a whim so if YOU change your mind for ANY reason, your deposit is NOT refundable!

    Additional adoption info

Our dogs listed on Adopt a Pet all have initials following the name of the dog. The initials show the State: RI, CT, NJ, NY, etc. where these dogs are being fostered.
If you see a dog with initials after the name of the dog, these are dogs that are not in our LOCAL area but transport will be arranged for those dogs. For example: W, CF, M, RH, etc.

Please remember that we are ALL volunteers & will respond to you as quickly as we can in all communications. We are not paid volunteers and try to keep the phones and emails manned but sometimes there may be a lapse in time. We appreciate your patience.

    OUR ADOPTION PROCEDURES:

    Step 1 - Complete an online application - http://fohari.org/aa

Step 2 - Please reserve your dog by making a $200 deposit on Paypal - https://www.paypal.com

E-mail address to use for deposit (which is applied toward total donation) is: FriendsoHA@yahoo.com

You can meet any of our local dogs with JUST an online application and NO deposit, but must be approved, etc. 1st in order to take your dog home.

Step 3 - Let your references know that a volunteer will be contacting them.

Step 4 - Once your references are contacted, a volunteer will be in touch to arrange your home visit.

Step 5 - Once you have been approved, pick up information, balance due, and adoption contract will be e-mailed to you.

    OUR ADOPTION DONATIONS:

Please remember our dogs generally all have a pull fee from a shelter, LOTS of vet costs for initial shots and tests, spay or neuter, and then transport costs to bring the dogs to our area. This is just the beginning of the costs for a rescue. We then depend on our volunteers to buy the dog food, we pay for any additional vetting costs and grooming for the dog. There are many costs and we depend on our adoption donations to HELP pay our costs. We are a non-profit charity 501(c)3 and depend on donations for rescuing our dogs. Most times, the adoption fee does not cover the costs associated with that dogs rescue costs.

Donations are listed on each dog's description.

References listed on your application will be checked prior to any meetings with a dog. We do require a HOME VISIT PRIOR to any adoption.

Some dogs are local, but many are not - they are in various locations so it will not be possible to meet some of them before you adopt.

We only will transport the dogs if you make a firm commitment and a $200 DEPOSIT as the paid transport is costly & difficult to arrange & we do not have enough foster homes.
