Lone Pine was started by our director over 25 years ago and LP became a non-profit, 501(c)3 in 2003. The Shelter is run primarily by volunteers. When possible, we hire a quarter time employee to help with the heavy stuff.
Lone Pine is a no-kill shelter with over 90 dogs and cats (as of September 2014). Lone Pine isn't like other shelters in that it is not a brick and concrete facility. The Shelter sits on 4 acres.
The dog kennels range in size from 6 ft x 6 ft to 3 times that size. All kennels have a roof, a gravel or brick floor, and each dog has a dog house. There are three different exercise yards that dogs in that area are let out to play in.
The Cat Barn is a converted milk barn. The cats are free to move about the barn. There is an enclosed patio area that the cats love to go and catch some sun in.
Lone Pine Shelter is a non-profit, 100% no-kill animal sanctuary group dedicated to the rescue of abused, neglected, and abandoned animals in our area.
Through our network of compassionate volunteers we provide much needed loving care, medical attention, and socialization in a home environment whenever possible.
Since we are no-kill those deemed "unadoptable" are provided a loving sanctuary to live out their days. In an effort to end the cycle of cruelty and overpopulation we strive to educate the public on humane treatment of animals and the importance of spaying and neutering dogs and cats.
We believe euthanasia should only be used to end suffering and not to control the population.
WISH LIST: Volunteers, Foster Homes, canned dog and cat food, light color collars of all sizes (we write the names on them), Cedar chips, bleach, heavy duty trash bags, money for vet care and medication.
Lone Pine survives on donations, grants, fundraisers and adoption fees. If you would like to donate, please go to our web site at www.lonepineshelter.org for more information.
