Additional adoption info
In order to be considered as an adoptive family for one of our dogs, you must start by filling out an online application. The information that you enter will be processed by an adoption representative, and a telephone interview will be conducted after your references are checked. We may also require a home visit for certain dogs. It is important for us to know that the dog is going to a permanent, loving home where it will be treated as a member of the family. It is also important that you do your homework on dog ownership and that you fully understand the expense and time that is involved in caring for a pet. Should you need any additional information regarding basic dog ownership, please feel free to Contact Us and we will be happy to provide resources for you to use.
When describing the kind of dog you would prefer, your first consideration should be the temperament of a dog that is appropriate for your lifestyle rather than the color, age or gender. Honestly assess your lifestyle and your needs; an accurate picture of your life will assist us in finding the right Lab for you and your family. Our primary goal is to match the personality of the dog with the personality of the prospective owners, resulting in a permanent and loving home for the dog.
Every attempt is made to ensure that the animal is healthy and of good temperament before it is placed for adoption. Our dogs undergo an observation period from one to three weeks before they are allowed to be adopted. During that time, we test each dog to see how it does with cats, other dogs, livestock, and children. The dog is also crate trained, started on housebreaking, and given basic obedience training. Every animal that leaves Kentucky Lab Rescue is spayed or neutered, current on all shots (including Bordetella and Corona), heartworm tested, dewormed, and on heartworm prevention.
An adoption fee of $375 is required for all dogs except Labradoodles and Goldendoodles regardless of age, sex, color. The adoption fee for Labradoodles and Goldendoodles is $550 This helps to cover the cost of veterinary care, boarding, transportation, training, supplies, heartworm and flea prevention, and other related expenses.
