Poodles and Pals of Southern California is a small, non-profit rescue that was formed by volunteers who love and adore this wonderful breed! Our goal is to assist Poodles who find themselves homeless - surrendered by their owners to our program, or those at risk of euthanasia at local animal shelters. We also seek to educate the public about this most misunderstood dog. If you are reading this page, you probably already know how intelligent, funny, active and loving the Poodle is! We want to spread the word that Poodles aren't frou-frou dogs, but wonderful, loving companions. They are truly the best keep secret in the dog world! Because we do love all dogs, sometimes we do have other breeds for adoption as well.
Poodles and other dogs staying with our foster families are evaluated for temperament and health. Any veterinary needs are addressed by our veterinarian, and all dogs are spayed/neutered and updated on vaccinations prior to adoption, if not already completed by the owner. We also microchip each dog.. We do our best to match families with the right dog, considering their lifestyle, previous experience with dogs and with Poodles, and ensuring that they are ready to care for any of their new dog's training and health needs. Our goal is a happy adoption for both people and Poodle! We are here to provide support after the adoption, and will take the dog back at any time if the dog isn't the right match for a home.

Poodles and Pals of Southern California accepts dogs from all over southern California. However, to assist us in providing appropriate follow-up with adoptions and to ensure a home check is possible before the dog goes home, we have limited our adoption area to Western Riverside and Northern San Diego Counties. For older, harder to place dogs, we will sometimes consider applicants who live in other counties, depending on volunteer availability.
Additional adoption info
STEP #1
The first step in adopting a dog is to complete an adoption application. Be specific in your answers to give us the best possible picture of your home and family. A volunteer will review your application and get back to you as soon as possible. Due to the high volume of adoption applications received, we use email to communicate initially during the screening process. Please remember to check your email for our response, and if you do not receive a reply to your application within 48 hours, feel free to send us an email.
Sometimes we may have concerns regarding an application, and we reserve the right to deny an application if we feel there is a reason the home would not be appropriate for one of our dogs. If we will not be proceeding with your application, we will do our best to communicate this in a timely fashion.
We receive many applications online each day, and we usually have several persons interested in a particular dog. We closely review each application, looking at the family's lifestyle, how much time they spend at home, yard size, current pets in the household, their previous pet history and their knowledge of dogs. We compare this to what we feel would be the best environment for the dog, considering his or her training and exercise needs, any medical needs, how the dog relates to children and other animals, etc. After considering each application, we choose the one that seems to be the best match for the dog. If your application is not chosen for the dog you are initially interested in, we suggest you visit our web site often (many prospective adoptive families visit daily!), and email us if there is a different dog you think would be a good fit for your family.
STEP #2: Home Visit
A home check is required for approval of an application and will be done prior to (or at the time of) adoption. The volunteer visiting your home will want to meet all people and pets in the household, check your fence and gates for security, and will make sure that there aren't any safety hazards or other concerns within the home. In addition, we want to makes sure that any current pets in the home are also well cared for.
If the volunteer completing the home check is also the foster parent of the dog you are interested in, it is often possible to complete the adoption at the time of the home visit. Sometimes, however, a different volunteer will complete the home check and we will arrange a meeting time with the foster family on a different day.
STEP #3: Completing the Adoption!
An adoption fee is required for the adoption of a dog. The typical adoption fee for a young, purebred Toy or Miniature Poodle is $200-$300, and up to $500 for a young Standard Poodle. Adoption fees are reduced for older dogs, those with special needs, and mixes.
All dogs adopted are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped prior to going to their new homes. Some dogs have additional health needs, which will be addressed by our veterinarian as necessary.
