Northern California Animal Rescue Friends (NCARF) is an all volunteer, non-profit (501c3) corporation. We work in cooperation with humane organizations, shelters, and other groups interested in animal rescue. We rescue domestic animals and place them in nurturing foster homes. We screen potential families for suitability prior to placing these pets into their forever homes.
NCARF has an affinity towards the beagle breed but we rescue all dog breeds. Our ability to rescue animals is dependent on the number of volunteer foster homes that we have available. This means, the more foster homes that we have, the more animals we are able to rescue. Please consider becoming a foster home.

Available Dogs
To find a dog to adopt from NCARF, visit our website (www.norcalbeagles.com). NCARF also has some dogs posted on PetFinder.com (under Toy Breed Rescue in San Jose, CA).
NCARF participates in regular adoptions events at Petsmart in Folsom, Natomas, Citrus Heights, Milpitas, and San Mateo. Please check out the “Available Dogs” page of our website to find out when and where these events will be held.
Adoption Process
Go to the NCARF website to see what dogs are available. Each posting will list the location of the dog. (Since all of our dogs are in foster homes, dogs are available throughout Northern California.) When you find a dog that you are interested in, contact the person listed in the posting.* The contact person will ask you about your particular situation and pet ownership in general. This screening process may take 30+ minutes. You will be asked to complete and send in (or submit from the website) your Adoption Application.
If NCARF determines that you are a good match for the dog, a visit will be arranged for you to meet the dog. This will provide you with an opportunity to see how the dog interacts with you. If there is mutual agreement that the dog might be a good match for you, you will be offered a “sleepover”. An adoption fee will be collected and paperwork completed. A sleepover provides you with a two week period to have the dog in your home to really determine if this is a good fit for your family. If, for some reason, the dog is not a good match, the dog will be returned to the NCARF. Should this happen, your adoption fee will be refunded within 30 days.
If the sleepover period proves the dog is a good match for your family, the dog will be officially adopted to you.
Adoption Fees
NCARF collects an adoption fee for their dogs. Fees average $200 - $300 per dog. A refundable training deposit is also collected on puppies under one year of age.
NCARF is run soley by volunteers. Adoption fees go toward medical care, shelter fees, and other animal expenses. Since we are a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation, any amount paid over your adoption fee (and training deposit, if applicable) is tax-deductible.
Please remember NCARF throughout the year by making regular tax-deductible donations.
* Frequently, we receive many inquiries on a dog. Interested persons will be contacted on a first-come basis. This does not guarantee that all candidates will be approved to adopt through NCARF.
