Rocky Mtn GSP Rescue

Dog rescue in Penrose, CO

The mission of the German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue Group of Colorado is to take in purebred German Shorthaired Pointers that are in shelters, whose owners no longer want them, or that have become lost and abandoned, and to place them in permanent pet homes in order to help provide a safe harbor for German Shorthaired Pointers that might otherwise be destroyed.

Additional adoption info

First of all, we want to thank you for contacting the Rocky Mountain German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue of Colorado. We will do everything we can to assist you in selecting a dog that's right for you. There are certain protocols that you will need to go through in order to adopt a dog through Rescue. First of all, you need to complete an adoption application questionnaire. Please go to www.rockymtngsp.org and click on any of the dark blue buttons located nearby the dog pictures. After you have submitted that application, it will be reviewed. Next, we will need to set up an appointment with you for a home visit. In the home visit, a Rescue representative comes to your home and checks for things like adequate fencing for the dog, where the dog will live, where it will sleep, exercise area, discover how much interaction the dog will have with its new family and general dog-friendliness. (Adequate fencing is at least 6 foot wood or chainlink, 2-3 inch metal or wooden (solid) fencing. Invisible fencing is not adequate because it does not protect the dog from in-coming animals/humans.) We also do not generally adopt to families with children under 5 years old. The GSP is a high energy dog and can accidentally run over little ones in their exuberance. This is also a measure to protect the dog from young children who may not be properly supervised and educated in the proper treatment of animals. While we do not discourage hunters from adopting a GSP, there are conditions that apply to those who wish to hunt their dogs (they must be indoor companions, and not kennel dogs). We also will call references as provided by you on the application (i.e., vet, landlord, personal). After the home visit and approval, you get to select your new dog. You can also expect a home visit or email/phone call from us shortly after you've adopted your new canine companion just to make certain that everything is going alright. Our adoption fee is generally $250 which is used to cover the cost of spaying/neutering, routine shots, heartworm check, paying for shelter fees, and any other medical treatment the animal may have needed. Transportation is the responsibility of the adopter. In the adoption contract it clearly states that if for any reason you can no longer care for the dog at any time, it must be returned to Rocky Mtn GSP Rescue of Colorado and not surrendered into a shelter. Again, transportation is the responsibility of the adopter. We will then go through our adoption process to re-home the dog again. I look forward to working with you in finding your new dog and thank you for opening both your heart and home to a needy GSP!
