We are a non profit group and our goal as a Great Dane rescue in the state of Virginia is to take in, rehabilitate, and rehome purebred Great Danes who are no longer wanted by placing them in foster care and carefully screening potential adopters to ensure that the perfect forever homes are found. In addition to rescuing Danes in VA, we aim to educate the public about the breed.

Rescue FAQs

We serve southeastern Virginia without about 90 miles of the city of Virginia Beach.

Additional adoption info

Step 1: Fill out an adoption application and mail it to us
Step 2: Our volunteers will check your references, and this may take a few days.
Step 3: A volunteer will call to schedule a home visit.
Step 4: Your application as well as home visit information will be reviewed and a decision will be made as to whether you are an approved home or not and you will be notified of this decision.

If approved: Volunteers and foster families will help arrange visits between you and the Dane you are interested in.

Please note: All applicants will be thoroughly screened and the information you provide in your application will be verified. We take the placement of our Danes very seriously and ensure that decisions are made in the best interest of the Dane..

Requirements for adoption:

You must live within the adoption zone - usually about 90 miles from the Virginia Beach, VA location.

1. No GDROC Dane will be placed in a home which intends to house the Dane outside or currently houses any dog outside.
2. Adopters must have a fenced in yard, invisible fences are not acceptable as the only means of containing a GDROC Dane.
3. If the Dane to be adopted is under 6 years old, adopter must complete an obedience course within 6 months of adoption and provide proof of this.
4. We do not generally adopt to families with children under the age of 5.
