We are a residential mental treatment and educational facility for juvenile boys from throughout the country. We use the dog program as therapy for the boys. I choose 5 boys and 5 dogs. The dogs are temperament tested at the shelter and then brought on campus. We get the dogs vet checked, micro-chipped, spayed/neutered, heartworm tested and immunized. We try to find out what problems the dogs have and encourage good manners in the dogs prior to adoption. The boys are not to use any physical corrections of the dogs to train them. We use clicker training. Before being adopted the dogs are taken through the AKC Good Citizen Test. The program runs for 10 weeks.
