Rescue FAQs

We are a non-profit organization that rescues dachshunds from shelters, owner surrenders and fully vets them including dental and heartworm treated if needed and all health issues addressed before they are put on the website to be adopted. We do this due to the fact that there are so many Dachshunds out there that are bred and brought by people that don't know the breed and after they get the dog home and find out after a couple of months that they can't housebreak the dog and it's not good with their kids, they dump the dog in the shelters or if we are lucky they contacts us. Some Dachshund are not so lucky and get shifted to several homes or are sold to puppymills that bred them into the groud.

Additional adoption info

All dogs are spayed/neutered/UTD on all shots/heartworm checked and treated if necessary and dental if necessary.
You do have to fill out an online adoption application at www.allamericandachshundrescue.org and we will do a phone interview, check your references and vet and we WILL DO a homevisit no matter what state you are in. To adopt a dachshund you must either have a fenced in yard. These are hunters and if you allow them to run free they will NOT come back or will be hit by a car or attacked by another dog. When you adopt the dog you are giving a two week trail period and if you feel you need more time we are happy to give that to you if you will notify us. We also make you sign a contract that is a legal and binding contract. Once you put in a application to adopt one of our fosters we will try to get back to you as soon as possible. If you have not heard from us in a week please e mail us as your app may have gotten lost. We also have the right to refuse to adopt to anyone that we feel would not make a good home for our Dachshunds. Please remember these dogs have been in at least 2-3 homes possible more and it could take the whole two weeks for them to adjust and possibly longer.
