Greyhound Pets of America South Carolina

Dog rescue in Lexington, SC

We are a local Chapter of Greyhound Pets of America. We place retired racing Greyhounds in permanent homes. Our dogs come from race tracks mostly located in Florida. Our Greyhounds are fostered through a remarkable program in a Women's Prison in Columbia, SC. There the inmates provide our dogs with socialization, attention, love and obedience training. We are one of a handful of such programs in the country and one of very few taking place in a Women's Correctional Facility.
Our adoptable Greyhounds are taken into foster homes after their stay at the prison so they can be checked for reactions around children, cats and other dogs. Then we try to match each dog to an adoptive family. Our process for adoption includes a home visit, during which concerns are addressed and questions from the potential adopters can be answered.
We also offer plenty of support after the adoption process has been completed and make ourselves available to new adopters.
We have get-togethers several times during the year, such as Greyhound Walks, Meet and Greets and our Annual Reunion.

Rescue FAQs

Additional adoption info

After you fill out an application, we will contact you to schedule a home visit.
This process allows us to check the environment the dog will live in and at the same time allows the Adopter to see a Greyhound in their home since we always bring one of ours.
When we have a dog to match your specific needs, the adoption fee of $200 will be collected. This fee helps defray the cost of Spaying or Neutering, shots, dental cleaning, check-up and fostering, all done before the dog is released to its new family.
