Rescue FAQs

SAVE A PET, at the Dothan Animal Shelter is a partnership between the City of Dothan’s Animal Shelter and the SAVE A PET non-profit rescue organization. This partnership’s common goal is to minimize the number of adoptable pets euthanized at the Dothan shelter. We plan to meet that goal, by… § Creating community outreach programs geared to educate and nurture responsible pet ownership in our community. § Establishing and administering a low cost spay neuter clinic in our area. § Supporting the Dothan Animal Shelter with funding and volunteer labor, so that everyone of our area’s misplaced pets will be given every opportunity to find a “forever home” where they will be safe, well cared for and most importantly loved. Funds and volunteer labor would also be used to improve the living conditions of animals housed at the shelter, so that all shelter pets would be housed in clean, dry, and well-maintained kennels and/or cages. And that while in the care of the shelter all animals would receive medical attention, as needed, as well as good nutrition, socialization and training.

Additional adoption info

All intersted adopters are asked to fill out an adoption application. Upon review of the application, the potential adopter will be contacted to set up a time for an interview and to meet the pet.

If after the visit the adopter would like to proceed with the adoption, a home visit will be scheduled.

Upon completion of the home visit, pets over the age of 6 months will be scheduled for spay/neuter surgery. Those adopting pets under the age of six months will be asked to sign a spay/neuter contract.

Our adoption fee is $65.00, which includes a signed adoption contract.

Story
" if you give me love, I will be loyal to you for the rest of my life-and I don't even care if your ears are too big or your hair is tangled! It's what's inside that counts, right? I promise I will be your best buddy for life if you will just give me a chance. Contact ABRA and ask to meet me!" Behavior and personalities are based on what we see here at the shelter. We do our best to work with every resident at our shelter, most will not be as stressed once in a home. Other information is based on what previous owners/fosterers have divulged. Adoption fee for most of our animals is as follows: $150 -$200 for dogs, s, $75 for cats.
