Shelter FAQs

PVCHS serves both Parke and Vermillion counties. This includes Rockville, Clinton, Hillsdale, Montezuma, and many other towns. We have adopted animals to people from states as far away as Georgia and Minnesota. We are always actively seeking additional VOLUNTEERS to help with the shelter animals at our facility and at events in the community. If interested in becoming a volunteer, please visit our web page and download a copy of our Volunteer Application.

Additional adoption info

An adoption application must be completed prior to adoption. This application may be completed at our facility, or it can be downloaded by visiting our web site www.pvchs.cfsites.org and choosing the "Applications and Fees" link. Once the application has been completed, it can be emailed to us at pvchs@joink.com. The usual adoption fee is $50.00 for kittens less than 1 year of age, $25.00 for cats over 1 year of age, $140.00 for puppies 8 weeks to 4 months of age, and $120.00 for dogs over 4 months of age.

All Dog/Puppy adoptions include vaccines, spay/neuter, microchip, adopter bag of food and treats, adoption counseling by phone or email, and a free health exam or first office call at a (local) participating veterinarian. All Cat/Kitten adoptions include vaccines, spay/neuter, adopter bag of food, adoption counseling by phone or email, and free health exam or first office call at a (local) participating veterinarian. Microchipping for cats/kittens is available for an additional $15 with any adoption.

Fees are reduced for some long term residents and senior pets (generally dogs over 7 years old). The reduced adoption fees range from $10.00 to $50.00.

Our policy is that all pets must be spayed or neutered prior to leaving the shelter. Fees may vary depending on the particular animal and the situation surrounding that animal.

We do not ship animals to adopters. Adopters are encouraged to bring all family members to help meet and select their new pet. Adopters complete an adoption application form and provide their veterinarian and landlord's phone number(s) for a reference.
