Wetzel County Animal Shelter

Animal shelter in New Martinsville, WV

Our mission is short and sweet. We provide a safe humane atmosphere for the unwanted and homeless dogs of the community and work on a waiting list basis to help as many cats as we can without euthanizing for space and try to place them in loving "forever" homes. The Wetzel County Animal Shelter has been around for approx 30 yrs although it has gone through significant changes in the last few yrs. Our shelter has 10 cat cages and 3 Outside Kennels. But ALL our dogs are kept inside. We also have an isolation room for smaller animals. Please understand that we are the county shelter and operate as County Budget and State Code regulate. Unfortunately, this limits the number of animals we can take in and the amount of time they have at the shelter. Euthanasia is sometimes the result.

We then check your references to make sure the right home and the right family is matched and contact you. When you adopt, you must then sign a contract waiving the shelter of liability and agreeing to humanely care for the pet the rest of its life (conditions are defined) and to have it altered by a set date if the animal is not already altered. If you have any questions about the pet, you can Email or call us and we will respond promptly. We also have a petfinder site @ www.wetzelpets.petfinder.com If you do not find the pet you are looking for, you can keep your application on file with a description of what you are looking for, and we will contact you when and if that animal becomes available. Fees as follows. Altered cats $10 plus medical costs incurred by shelter. Altered dogs $175 for Males, and $200 for Females; this covers the medical costs incurred by shelter.
