Sonoma County Animal Shelter offers such diverse services as finding homes for adoptable animals, providing shelter for stray animals, offering assistance to owners and finders of lost animals, providing limited veterinary care, and maintaining pet licensing. In addition, the shelter sponsors various community education and outreach programs throughout the year, including a spay/neuter program. The shelter's field services include rescue and care of injured or distressed animals, rabies control, investigation of reports of animal abuse and neglect, and the enforcement of animal regulation laws.

Our jurisdiction covers the unincorporated area of Sonoma County, the city of Santa Rosa and the town of Windsor.

Additional adoption info

We require an adoption application and adoption fee for all animals. Landlord approval is needed for adoptions, if you are a renter.

The cost of adoptiong a cat or dog includes spay or neuter, vaccination(s), dewormer, flea treatment as needed, microchip, and a travel box or leash. Kittens are tested for Feline Leukemia and adult cats are tested for Feline Leukemia Aids. Dogs are tested for Heartworm for an additional fee upon request. You are required to purchase a dog license if you live within our jurisdiction (an annual fee) and required to register a cat (a one time fee) at the time of adoption.

Adoption fees are based on the age and type of pet being adopted, and potentially, the length of time they have been at the shelter. Cats and kittens range from $52.50 to $132.00, dogs and puppies range from $94.00 to $168.00 and other animals range from $10.50 to $50.00.
