Humane Society of Southern Illinois

Animal shelter in Murphysboro, IL

The Humane Society of Southern Illinois was first founded in 1956. We are an open-access shelter that accepts animals from three separate animal control officers, as well as the general public. We are mainly funded through donations and every little bit helps.

We work with a few independent rescue coordinators to place adoptable animals in high quality rescue programs.

As always, this would never have been possible without the kind and generous donations of our members and supporters. Please donate to help sustain this vital Life Saving program!

Additional adoption info

Adoptions fees vary depending on what of companion animal you decide to adopt from us.

Dogs: $225 Dogs or special needs $200
Cats: $125 Cats or special needs $100

All animals must be spayed/neutered, microchipped, and rabies vaccinated before they can go home. If these procedures are not already done at the time of adoption, an appointment must be made and the cost of these procedures CAN be included in the cost of adoption under most circumstances which will be discussed at the time of adoption.

The potential adopter has to fill out a pre-adoption application before any adoption is finalized. The staff at our facility will go through the application with you to make sure your home is the best home possible for our shelter babies. Our first and foremost concern is for the happiness and welfare of the companion animals in our care.

For any other questions regarding the adoption process, please contact our shelter at 618 457 2362. We will try to answer any questions you may have.
