Gulf South Golden Retriever Rescue

Dog rescue in New Orleans, LA

Who We Are

Each Gulf South GRR member, officer, and foster care giver is a totally unpaid volunteer with family and work commitments. We strive to respond quickly to every inquiry received, but more importantly, we want to place the right dog in the right home. Should you not receive a timely reply, please email GulfSouthGoldens@gmail.com.

Gulf South Golden Retriever Rescue, Inc. (GSGRR) is a small group of volunteers. We take in purebred Golden Retrievers from public and private shelters, and we accept owner-relinquished dogs from the Gulf Coastal states (LA, MS, AL, FL) in order to provide them with necessary veterinary care, to spay or neuter them as necessary, to evaluate their temperament and to socialize them, and to match them with loving, carefully selected adoptive homes. We are home based in the Greater New Orleans, LA area but have volunteers spread across the Gulf South. We place dogs in the Gulf South.

Rescue FAQs

Our Goldens are fostered in New Orleans and are adopted to the Gulf Coast area.

Additional adoption info

Potential adopters describe their ideal dog and their own background and expectations in an adoption application. This information helps us decide the best possible match between dog and family. We request references from the applicant's veterinarian and we visit the home for a scheduled visit prior to placement. The standard requested adoption fee is currently $300. The option fee helps GSGRR cover veterinary fees.

Because our greatest allegiance is to the dogs, we will first attempt to provide advice that may facilitate the adoption, so it will not be necessary to displace the dog yet again. However, if a new owner feels strongly that the adoption was ill-advised; we take the dog back into our program and try to find a more fitting placement. (A refund of the adoption fee is available only within 2 weeks of the adoption.) It is a violation of our adoption contract for a new owner to pass the dog on to another party or to take it to a shelter, because when we take in a dog, we consider it our responsibility for life.

Under ordinary circumstances, no dog will be placed for adoption that is not spayed/neutered, up-to-date on shots, and free of intestinal parasites. Information regarding initial spay/neuter and immunization status is provided SIMPLY so that you will be familiar with a dog's history and so that you may follow a dog's progress through the system. The adoption fee is NOT raised for high-cost dogs, which is why we need YOUR help! We receive NO Permanent funding from the AKC, any animal welfare group, or any breed club.
