The Huntington County Humane Society is a private, independent, 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization. We rely heavily on the limited revenue generated by our programs and fees, and on the tremendous generosity of our community. We serve the entire county of Huntington, Indiana. We are contractually funded by the city and county of Huntington to provide animal control and enforce animal related ordinances. This contractual funding helps to support our ability to pay for costs related to animal control such as maintaining vehicles, fueling vehicles, providing officer training and education, providing phones for police dispatch communication, housing homeless animals brought in as a result of calls, and partially funding payroll for our officers.
The majority of the animals at our shelter are cats and dogs, but we also provide temporary care and coordinate safety services for farm animals and other small pets brought in as a result of animal control investigations of cruelty and neglect.
