OTC stands for "Off the Chain". As in, Off the Chain Training & Rescue. This is how we were know before getting our charity status and we continue to do business as "Off the Chain". "Off the Chain" is a nod to the exclamation that was said by kids in the 90s as it is also our mission to be a chain-free facility & we will not adopt to anyone planning on putting our dogs on chains in the backyard to protect your chickens or whatever else you're treating better than our dog. We have been known to "repo" a dog or cat when our adoption contracts are not being full-filled or if the pet is not happy in their adoptive homes.
We want to educate the public of the importance of spaying/neutering their pets if they didn't come from us; the importance of continued "training" throughout the pet's life for that special bond, and last but not least, the importance of consistent dosing of prevention meds (i.e. heartworm, fleas, tics, & other parasites).
If you've read this far, you may be like "wow, they are serious!" Yes, we are! Many (most lately) come from horrid backgrounds or at the very least unhappy backgrounds such as being tied to a tree or fence and used only for breeding until they were able to chew themselves free somehow. Or the poor souls have been stuck in the shelter for months terrified, confused, and uncertain of their futures. When they get here, we ensure they have plenty of time to decompress and relax before they are integrated into the pack slowly. They have climate-controlled kennels with large runs outside that they can access at any time. But our dogs and cats spend most of their time running around and playing with other dogs or cats or just chilling in the sun. We will not allow our dogs/cats to go into a situation worse than what they are currently in with us. But, if you're ready to provide the type of home we require to adopt one of our pets, we do not discriminate on where you live or if you have a fence. As long as you have a plan to exercise the pet regularly and provide love & affection, then we believe everyone deserves to have a dog or cat.
