RESCUES ON85TH's adoption process

1.

Submit Application

Application shall inquire medical history, ages in the household, rental agreements, and what scenarios to protect the pet from surrender.

2.

Interview

Individuals/Family will have a Zoom meeting to view interactions with each other and have an online background questionnaire.

3.

Home Check

Home Check is initiated to determine where the dog/cat will live, sleep, eat, and be cared for in a clean and safe living environment.

4.

Meet the Pet

Determining, if the pet decides that they are a good match and feel comfortable around the adopting individual family is a must..

5.

Approve Application

Individuals/Family will be notified of denial or approval of the application. If denied, an email/letter will be sent to explain the reason.

6.

Sign Adoption Contract

An adoption contract shall be signed informing you of the terms and conditions for the adoption.

7.

Take the Pet Home

A follow-up visit is initiated to verify how the family and pet are getting along and if other assistance is needed.

Background Check: To ensure that adoptions are not provided to documented animal breeders, dog fight promoters, habitual surrenderers, violent offenders, or animal abusers.

RESCUES ON85TH, a registered 501(c)(3), was formed on December 22 nd, 2021. We are a volunteer-based organization located in Birmingham, Alabama, serving Jefferson County. We assist low-income households struggling to care for their cat(s) and/or dog(s) due to financial difficulties. We are not animal control or a full shelter, we are a mobile community service providing supplies, education, and other assistance for cats and dogs to help prevent surrender and death due to starvation. We accomplish this when funding permits, a depend on public support for our operations.
Our mission is to assist in providing provisions for a safe and healthy living environment for cats and dogs, to strengthen the human-animal bond, and to educate on the importance of animal safety.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
