Over 4 million donkeys are slaughtered each year worldwide and, as a result, their population is rapidly shrinking in many countries. In the United States alone, over 160,000 horses are annually shipped for slaughter. Most of these beautiful animals are healthy, friendly and even well-trained. The process of shipping and slaughtering them is far from humane. All with unique stories, the donkeys and horses living at The Farmette escaped being a part of these horrific statistics. We are both a rescue, offering the adoption of animals to approved homes, as well as a sanctuary, providing a forever home for various animals.

Additional adoption info
We do not charge any application fee but do charge an adoption fee that helps cover some expenses. Typically our adoption fee is $600/donkey or horse and $1000 if adopter wants a pair. But, it does vary depending on the situation. Equines with costly medical conditions are often adopted for less because adopters will have expenses.
