Story
Hi! This is Barkley, a 4-year-old Clumber Spaniel/shepherd mix. He is a beautiful 63-lb. dog, all white with brown freckles and “eyebrows” on his face. He was given to the San Diego Spaniel Rescue by a family with 5 children who were unable to take care of him anymore. He has been living in a foster home for a year now, patiently waiting to find his forever home. Barkley is a very good dog – no barking, no chewing, no messes in the house – ever. He is crate trained and loves being in his crate. At his foster home, he has several dog beds and you will always find him on one. He can be trusted around food (if you need to leave it on the coffee table for a bit) and is not interested in begging for human food with the exception of cheese, meat, fish, and eggs (if you want him to eat his food quickly, just sprinkle some parmesan cheese on it). His favorite treats are duck jerky and freeze-dried beef liver. He likes to take his treat back to his bed, eat it there, then come check to see if you’re still in the kitchen to give him another. Barkley is a mellow and easy dog. One of his favorite things to do is lay on his dog bed in the sun in front of the screen door and watch outside. I’ve taken Barkley to a cabin in Idyllwild, wine tasting in Temecula, and to eat out on dog-friendly patios and he always very well behaved. Once he smells a bit, he lays down and often just falls asleep. If you want to see Barkley excited, take his leash out! He will hop in circles and herd you towards the door. He loves going for a walk and will often do happy hops for the first few blocks. He is very good on the leash – no pulling, but he doesn’t understand crossing streets - he wants to run across. We have been practicing “wait” when he comes to a crosswalk and he is pretty good about waiting until he is told “ok” to go. While Barkley loves a good walk, he is probably not a running partner. He had hip surgery in February to correct what was probably a previously broken and untreated hip. He has made a full recovery, but cross-country running is probably not good for him, long-term. Barkley is well behaved and is good for either an apartment or house. However, Barkley would love a home with a backyard for sniffing things. He currently lives in an apartment and he becomes so much happier when he goes to visit friends’ houses with backyards. He is not a digger – he spends his yard time smelling things, finding sticks to chew, or sleeping in the sun. Barkely is pretty shy around other dogs. He would rather watch them from a distance. When walking, he will go out of his way to go around some dogs he sees. Dogs that are loud or “in your face” are what Barkley tries to avoid. He is most comfortable with dogs who are non-aggressive and low energy (like his greyhound friend, Lulu). When he is with his dog friend Lulu, he is a much braver boy. He would do well in a home with a calm, non-assertive dog to show him how to enjoy being a dog. Barkley likes: duck jerky dog treats, cheese, being brushed (just show him the brush and he will come right over!), smelling things in a backyard, laying in sunshine, eating a rawhide outside, watching squirrels from the window, visiting his dog friend Lulu. Barkley will tolerate a bath at the dog wash – he even gets the blueberry facial and he will let himself be blow-dried, but he doesn’t really like to swim or get wet if he can help it. Barkley doesn’t understand some wood or slippery tile floors (who knows why?!) and will carefully step to the nearest rugs, using them as “lily pads” to move around. It’s pretty cute. Story
DOB: June 2019 Weight: 40lbs Disposition: Engaging, Happy, and ConfidentMeet this spirited and handsome pup, Danillo! Danillo is an incredibly brave boy. He was saved from the streets of Thailand by our partners at the Soi Dog Foundation and underwent months of treatment, love and affection to completely transform into his now happy-go-lucky nature. He has taken to his new rescued life with enthusiasm!Danillo will put on a huge smile for the TBL volunteers and any others who happen to come by with pets or a tasty treat (or simply a "good boy" - he's not that picky). He comes when he's called and loves attention. Some of his favorite pastimes include: chasing and being chased, cooling off in the kiddie pool, and hanging out with the volunteers at the Ranch. The icing on the cake? Danillo is housebroken and non-destructive.
