Dog rescue in Cincinnati, OH

Schnauzer Friends for Rescue and Adoption is a non-profit organization made up of volunteers who are trying to match "orphaned" Miniature Schnauzers with loving adoptive homes. While we are based in Cincinnati, Ohio, we do adopt all over Ohio, in northern and central Kentucky, and southern Indiana.
A popular misconception about a rescue dog is that they are old, "throwaway" dogs that no one else wants. While some of the dogs we get in are elderly, most are between the ages of 3 and 6. A great majority that we receive are males. All are spayed or neutered and up to date on shots by the time they are ready to be adopted. We work very hard to match each dog to the right adoptive home. To that end, we screen each dog to determine his or her needs and temperment. We also screen adoptive parents to make sure that they get the dog that will provide the best companionship for them. People surrender these dogs for many reasons. Housebreaking is a common reason (also one that is generally easily corrected with consistency). Some of the owners can no longer physically care for the dog. Others are moving and can't take the dog with them. Still others insist that the dog has attempted to injure their children. Whatever the reason, we evaluate the dog ourselves to determine his needs. We want to find permanent homes for these guys. Miniature Schnauzers have a lot of love to give. All they need is someone to give them a chance.
Another misconception is that these dogs are "free." While we don't sell the dogs, we do charge an adoption fee to help offset the cost of basic care and vet services. Rarely does the adoption fee cover the actual expense of the dog. Therefore we have periodic fundraisers and are always accepting of donations through check or PayPal. Every dog will be heartworm negative, spayed or neutered, and up to date on shots at the time of adoption.
