HEART is a small but passionate 501c3 nonprofit animal rescue. We help animals from counties all over the Florida panhandle, never turning away one we can help as long as we have a foster home for him/her to stay. We take great pride in the care we provide for our babies. We believe in whole health, meaning we cover ALL the bases. When an animal comes into our care they go straight to the vet for a full checkup and to be tested for disease. We begin treatment right away for anything that's wrong and focus on building up the animal's physical strength and confidence which can often include aquatherapy, a low-impact type of exercise that benefits a wide variety of ailments both physically and mentally.
Not only to we take excellent care of our babies but we also have a program called Helping HEARTs, which is a community outreach program to help animals in need. We believe in keeping pets with their families whenever possible instead of rehoming them or bringing them into rescue. This means we will assist with providing dog and cat food, basic vet care, spaying and neutering, and microchipping.
We want our community to know we are here for the animals and will help however we possibly can. We are here for the animals!

Additional adoption info
The first step in the adoption process is a no-obligation application. Each application must be thoroughly completed. Once we review that and determine it's good enough to move forward, we call and do a vet check to make sure the person/family is a good pet owner and have kept their pets spayed or neutered and vaccinations, flea and heartworm prevention updated. If we get a good review from the vet we then set up a home visit and meet and greet. We take the animal to the family's home to meet everyone. We do a home inspection to make sure there's nothing in the home that might be dangerous to a pet, make sure the fence has no holes or gaps, and overall check to make sure it's safe. If the home is secure and the meet and greet goes well, once the family decides they want to adopt they fill out and sign a contract. The contract outlines the family's responsibility to the pet and indicates that if for any reason they can no longer keep the animal it will be returned to us. Our adoption fees are $200 for dogs and $100 for cats. Other animals vary depending on the situation and how much has been spent on their vet care. After the adoption, we stay in touch and ask for updates to make sure everyone is still happy and things are going well.
