Name:    Ellie May        Best Guess for Breed:  Sheep Dog/Wire Haired Terrier Best Guess for Age:    5 years as of Nov 2024        Gender:    female Approximate Weight:    62 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats or kids yet, but she can be tested. Currently Living At: Lucky Dog's South Carolina rescue campus. She needs a foster or adopter to secure her freedom ride to the DC area. Special Adoption Considerations: Ellie May is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.  We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! About Ellie May: Ellie May is a beautiful, 5-year-old pup with a heart full of love and a mind full of potential! We believe she’s a mix of Sheepdog and Wire-Haired Terrier, which means that Ellie May is not only adorable, but she’s also incredibly smart. She's the type of dog who thrives on mental stimulation and would absolutely excel in obedience or trick training. Whether it's learning a new command or mastering a fun trick, Ellie May is always up for the challenge! This sweet girl is great with other dogs, so she’d fit perfectly into a home with other furry friends. She loves meeting new people and would be overjoyed to be part of a family that enjoys outdoor adventures. Ellie May’s ideal days include long hikes, beach trips, and even family vacations – she’s an explorer at heart. After a fun day of adventure, though, Ellie May is all about relaxation. She’ll happily curl up with you on the couch for some well-deserved cuddle time. Ellie May is looking for a family or individual who can provide her with love, structure, and plenty of opportunities to play and explore. She’ll be your loyal companion, ready to take on any adventure and snuggle up when the day is done. If you’re looking for a smart, sweet, and adventurous dog who’ll be your best friend for life, Ellie May might just be the perfect match for you! She's firmly closed that chapter and is eager to get her new one. The one where she gets her own humans. Where she gets to go on long sniffy walks in the neighborhood, meeting new pup and people pals - and explore the rest of the world! Quality kibble and a cushy dog bed are on her wish lost as well, and she wouldn't refuse to try puppacinos and other tasty treats either.   You know what, though? She's way out of the puppy yips and as a wise, experienced dog knows what's most important in life: Being safe and loved and under her own roof. That's right at the top of her wish list. In exchange she promises adoring gazes and loyal companionship for all her days. At 52 pounds, that's a pretty huggable snuggle buddy and a solid presence by your side.
